Here is my story. My Dad and I were without power for only 33 hours during the ice storm. We left the house once to go to a funeral and burial. The photo was taken just east of Hogback on our way to Wilmington.

Back at home, we were warm, and burned wood and oil. We had running water from the spring into the cellar and toted it upstairs in buckets to wash and flush. We used the opportunity to defrost the refrigerator and freezer, setting the food outside on the porch to stay cold in single-digit temperatures. We ate a delicious venison and beef stew, which had been warmed on a gas range, and listened to the battery-operated radio in the flicker of candlelight. I read my book in bed by flashlight. We were very fortunate to be very comfortable.
