Marlboro Elementary Alumni: post your memoriesHello current and former Marlboro residents!! I must say, this little website gives me memories of my hometown. I graduated Marlboro Elementary school in 1991, back when Mr. Edelstein was the Junior High teacher. Are there any other alumni that use this forum, that were there back then? If not, that is fine, I just ask for you to share a fond memory of your time at Marlboro Elementary school. There are so many great memories I have of this wonderful school. One that stands out very vividly is the annual Christmas Concert. Every year I would stand with my classmates, singing to the tune of Mrs. Morris' guitar or piano. At the end of the concert, all former classmates would come down and sing togethor. The feeling of community and warmth on that night, was one that I will never lose. It is my goal to move my family back to Vermont, and get on that stage once again; to see my daughter on that stage. As a child, the thing that was looked forward to most by many in my class, were the annual trips we would take to different states. I still today tell my friends about how we went to Boston, New York City, Montreal, and Washington DC. I remember when we went to Manhattan in the 6th grade. This was quite a different world from what we all knew in Marlboro. We all were overwhelmed with excitement on the whole trip. I don't know if these trips still take place, but I sure hope they do. So please, I emplore you to take a moment and tell a story of what you hold dear to Marlboro Elementary. This school is so wonderful, and I will hold it dear to me forever. The town of Marlboro is beautiful, but the school is what motivates me the most to move back by june, just in time for my daughter to start school. Take care everyone! Wow, Marcia that wa a beautiful piece of writting right there. your eescription of the smell in the air that day, made me feel like I was right there with you. Long gone are so many American heroes, but they never dissapear as long as we find a way to honor and remember them. That is a wonderful way to show respect and appreciation for fallen soldiers. I remember around every Memorial Day, with the smell of lilac blossoms in the air, walking from school along Route 9, two by two, up to the Center Cemetery with flags. We sang patriotic songs along the way. We would place the flags on the graves of veterans from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and World War II. All the girls wore dresses and skirts and all the boys looked sharp, too. After placing the flags in metal holders by the graves, someone would say a little prayer then we went home with our parents. I was in the first grade when the school was new in 1954, and graduated eighth grade with two other girls in 1962. As for school trips, I remember going to Laurel Lake in Whitingham and to Benson's Wild Animal Farm in Hudson, New Hampshire. I spent a few years of my life somewhere else and I am back in Marlboro now.
