Meeting House School

About Us:

Meeting House School is a preschool for three to five year old children. Founded in 1973, it is the longest running preschool in the Southern Vermont region. Meetingshouse preschool is open to all area children. Six preschoolers are currently enrolled for the 2009/2010 school year, which operates from 8:30am – 12:00pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with an extended day program offered on Thursdays.

Residents of Marlboro with children 3-5 years old are eligible for "10 FREE hours of preschool per week for two years!"

To find out more about free hours and to enroll your preschoolers, please call 802-257-0801 or write Meetinghouse Preschool at PO Box 117, Marlboro, Vermont 05344

Our Preschool Philosophy:

We believe preschool should help children develop the social skills they need to live, work and play successfully and in harmony with others.
Our curriculum supports our philosophy by providing a structured, guided social experience within a rich intellectual environment that supports and guides a child’s natural curiosity for concepts like numbers, letters, colors, shapes, cause and effect, ordering, and other fundamentals.

Our Classroom Curriculum:

We meet in a big open room, full of natural light, on the first floor of the historic Meetinghouse Church in Marlboro center. The room is organized by activity focus and includes unique areas for reading, block play, drama and dress up, art, and observing objects through light or by using other sensory tools.

We support development of social skills, conflict resolution and community building during all play and group activities. Language and pre-writing skills are developed through daily songs, stories, drama and modeling. Math and science concepts are learned during games with manipulatives and play time at sensory tables filled with rice and lavender, funnels and bowls, or other hands-on items.

We provide circle time, library trips, music, story time and eat daily snack in our own kitchen. Outside we have a sandbox, swing set and climbing hill; and inside a bright bathroom for washing up.
